I am very much looking forward to this post because it is about my absolute favorite bookish candle shop: Ash & Quill Candles.
I cannot recall where/how I discovered Ash & Quill Candles. I think it may have possibly been through the #bookstagram hashtag on Instagram. Either way, I am really thankful that I have found the shop. First, the owner Leonie is a wonderful human being. Second, the shop sells great candles. There is a great deal of variety in scents, and so many other highlights I will mention later.
OVERVIEW OF THE SHOP
A little bit about the shop and products: the candles are bookish-themed, with some other fandoms thrown in, like (my favorite) The Originals television show, and some Instagram-themed scents. The candles are vegan soy, hand-poured and come in three different sizes: 7 oz jars, 3 oz tins, and now 2 oz jars. All of the candles I have received have labels about burning the candles and cautions, as well as beautiful labels that tell you the title of the candle, as well as the scents that make up each candle.
Candle burning times are as followed:
7 oz | Approximately 40-55 hours
3 oz | Approximately 20-30 hours
(A FEW) FAVORITES
I have placed several orders in the last several months of buying from the shop. I have so many favorites, and have never received one I did not love; however, I am going to narrow down a few favorites as of the writing of this post. This may change with the incoming order I am waiting on 😉
One of the very first candles I ordered that is still available is ‘Lumiere Island‘ (pictured above). ‘Lumiere Island’ is a bookish candle named after the island in Shea Ernshaw’s The Wicked Deep. The scents are strawberry, rhubarb, sage, and sea salt. The candle reminds me of the ocean-side town that I used to go to when I was younger, that had a mix of sweetness in the air because of the sweet treats on the boardwalk. I feel like this captures the island in the book very well, especially with the book season setting with festivities going on as the plot unfolds. I am pretty sensitive when it comes to scents, so I feel confident in telling you this is not a very overpowering scent. I guess I would say it is gentle. But definitely a great candle if you love the scent of the ocean.
The next candle I want to highlight is the ‘Elijah Mikaelson‘ candle (pictured below) that I received in The Originals book box, though you can purchase it individually (or in a bundle deal).
The candle is this really interesting scent of salted bourbon buttercream. I admit, when I first saw salted bourbon in the mix I did not think I would like it. When I think of bourbon I have a very clear scent in mind that I personally do not like; however, with the mixture of buttercream, it transforms into a really cozy scent. To kind of describe the setting that I picture when burning the candle, I would say sitting by a fireplace, with only that lighting a room, and reading (something I could picture Elijah doing!). The scent is distinct, but not overpowering.
The final candle I want to highlight, pictured above, is ‘Sock Sunday‘. This is one of the Instagram-inspired candles (#socksunday). The candles is an intense mix of peppermint and hot chocolate. I like burning this one for only a half an hour at a time, and usually when I am done deep cleaning, so I get that fresh, peppermint smell. I would say the peppermint is stronger than the chocolate, but you definitely can smell the chocolate. This one, I think, would be really nice during the winter season- that peppermint mocha kind of feel!
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SHOP
Be prepared, this section is going to be lengthy because there are a lot of highlights to the shop; however, I will keep it to five points.
1. Scent Strength
I love that Leonie has put in the description of each candle the scent strength. I am cautious when buying candles online because I am always worried the scents of them will either be too strong in a certain scent that I cannot handle, or it will not be strong enough in one that I want to smell more of. I feel like Leonie does a good service by providing this, especially when you do not want something overly powerful due to sensitivity.
2. 2 oz Candle Jars
Leonie recently added 2 oz candle jars and I am thrilled! Though I have not received one yet, the option to receive one is really a nice addition to offer. When I was making my latest order, I realized what great holiday gifts/stocking stuffers these would make, especially for a book lover (of television/film!). I will definitely be placing an order for the holidays for these 2 oz jars.
3. Bundle Deals
Another aspect of Leonie’s shop that I really appreciate are the bundle deals. I think in all my orders I’ve purchased more than one candle (my orders are always at least two). To have a bundle deal option is really great for saving a little bit of money, and as an international customer, I feel like I am getting a lot out of the shipping costs- which brings me to my next love of the shop…
4. International Shipping
Leonie offers not only international shipping, but at a very decent cost. I have had to ship internationally multiple times and it is not cheap, especially with heavier items, which candles definitely are. But somehow Leonie has managed very cheap shipping internationally.
5. Rewards Program
If you purchase directly from https://ashandquillcandles.co.uk/, you earn reward points that amount to great discounts. You can apply them to whatever you would like, including bundle deals! Again, a nice feature Leonie offers.
