I am really looking forward to attending the second year of BookNet Fest! I volunteered last year and had a lot of fun! I cannot wait for another exciting year! Thank you to Kathy for creating this tag! I love it and think it is a great way to help people get introduced beforehand!
For all the information you could need on BookNet Fest, please see the official website, and also give a follow on Twitter @booknetfest! Another special thank you to Samantha (Thoughts on Tomes) and Marines (mynameismarines) for putting together an extraordinary event!
My name is Kayla and I like to introduce myself as a social introvert. I can be terribly shy, but once I find myself warmed up and comfortable, I can be very social. I am an avid reader with my favorite genres being fantasy, mystery/thriller, nonfiction (specifically relating to World War I) and contemporary. I am working towards a career in history and a big believer in treating yourself. Oh, and I am a sucker for a good quote and bookish candles.
Are you going to BookNet Fest this year, or admiring it from afar?
Yes! I am definitely going this year. Last year was such a fun time I could not stay away!
If you are attending, where are you travelling from/how are you getting to Orlando?
I am very lucky that I am less than an hour away from the event, so it is just a short drive for me.
What platforms do you use to express your love of books?
I was primarily trying to focus my content on my BookTube channel (same name as the blog!), but I think I am switching gears a bit and am going to focus on the blog with videos when I can. So… welcome to the blog! I also share a lot on Instagram, mostly what I am currently reading and my love of bookish candles.
Are you reading/have you read/are you planning to read the #BookNetReads book club books?
I really wish I had planned out my time better to read the book club books, but sadly I did not; however, I hope everyone who is participating has a blast and once I have a chance to read the picks, and if the sessions are recorded, I’ll will most certainly check them out!
What are you most looking forward to at BNF (or would you definitely want to do if you were going)?
I am really looking forward to seeing the people I met last year. I was extremely nervous going last year because I was alone, but I was very welcomed by a group of people and cannot wait to see them again! In addition, I am really looking forward to the workshops. I love bouncing ideas off others and kind of what works and what might not, and just collaborating in general.
Have you attended other bookish events that you’d recommend?
I’ve been to a couple of author signings and really recommend those if you are able to. The one that sticks out most to me is a signing with Marissa Meyer. She was a fantastic speaker and took the time to talk to each person individually. It was a great experience to hear her talk about her writing process, among other things, and just get a chance to tell her that I really enjoy her books. But other than that, I have only ever been to BookNet Fest. I would love to try this coming year to go to other book-related events if possible!
What book are planning to read that weekend?
I really do what to take advantage of maybe relaxing by the pool at the hotel, or in the room, and get some reading done in between all the fun that will happen. I am currently in the middle of A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe by Alex White, so I may still be reading that. Or, if I do not start City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab this weekend, I may save it for then.
Do you have any internet book friends you are excited to see (even meet physically for the first time) in person?
Yes! There are many that I cannot wait to see, “old” and new! But the five that come to mind instantly are Sarah Viehmann, Sarah and Rebecca from Tea Hags, Alicia, and Angel Rose! I also would love to give a hello to some of my favorite creators that I did not get to say hello to last year.
